58. Island Shrine

Head back to Black Chocobo -> Phantom Village and board your airship.
Fly your airship to the Big Bridge.

Once you enter, two Gargoyle are waiting for you. Just use AOE to kill them at the same time.

IMPORTANT: Before you enter the shrine, make sure that your character levels are not divisible by 5, 4, and 3 if possible. Monster Executor commonly uses all Level spells. Level 5 Death and Level 3 Flare can instantly kill your allies.

Bestiary Checklist:

1F and 2F have a ventilation system that can be confusing when you flip switch (a) and (b), so I made a diagram below so that it's easy to understand.

Item Checklist:

  • C-160: 12000 gil
  • C-161: Hi-Potion
  • C-162: Iron Draft

Step 1: flip switch (b), then enter the vent for one chest in #3, then go back.
Step 2: flip switch (a), then enter the vent for one chest in #4, then go back.
Step 2: flip switch (b), then enter the vent to continue.

Item Checklist:

  • C-163: Elixir
  • C-164: 9000 gil
  • C-165: Rising Sun (Monster: Pantera or Covert) - Pantera is weak against fire, use Firaga to deal massive damage to it. Covert doesn't have a weakness but has less HP than Pantera, so just use your attacks.

There are many pits on 5F; in the middle area, follow the map carefully or change one job to Geomancer to see the pits. Both side exits lead to the same empty room.

Item Checklist:

  • C-166: Protect Ring (Monster: Mecha Head or Prototype)
  • C-167: Crystal Helm
  • C-168: Ether
  • C-169: Beast Killer
  • C-170: Ether
  • C-171: Dragon Fang
  • C-172: Dark Matter
  • C-173: Circlet

Boss: Wendigo

Steal: Dark Matter x4

This guy appears as 4 from the beginning, and you can deal damage to all of them. But after a few turns, only the real body will take damage, and it'll counter Frost if you hit the wrong ones.

Easiest strategy:

  • One Thief (or Steal ability) with Black Magic ability if available, one Time Mage (and Black Magic ability if you have), two Black Mages. Black Mages should equip Magnus Rod and Flame Rod for extra damage.
  • Start by casting Hastega on your party and Slowga on the bosses. Then follow up with Sleep with multiple targets. Make sure that you repeatedly cast Sleep until all of them are hit (those already hit with Sleep will be missed). Once they are all sleeping, they become punching bags.
  • Each one of them has Dark Matter, which is a rare item; your Thief should take this chance to steal all 4 before killing them.
  • All Black Mages keep spamming Firaga with multiple targets until you win.

Normal Strategy:

  • The boss is vulnerable to slow, blind, and sleep, so Slowga, Flash, and Sleep are useful here.
  • Use Hastega, Mighty Guard, and Golem on your party.
  • Once the boss switches form, you should only use single-target spells/skills on the real one. Well, you'll have to figure out which one is real by attacking them one by one. As long as you have a White Mage to heal and use Esuna, you shouldn't have a problem taking this boss down.

Use Teleport to leave the shrine.

Legendary Weapons

Again, you got a new tablet which allows you to choose 3 more legendary weapons. See 50. Legendary Weapons for more info.
