56. Bahamut (Summon)

Note: this summon is optional, and you can come back any time to challenge Bahamut if you find it difficult now to obtain or want to fight him the proper way.
He is waiting for you at the mountain top of North Mountain. The path is pretty straightforward.

133. North Mountain - Bahamut
133. North Mountain - Bahamut

Boss: Bahamut

He is not as strong as you might think. The only problem with him is Mega Flare, which deals massive damage and can KO your allies easily.
To protect your party from Mega Flare, you can cast Reflect on your entire party. This is the key to defeating Bahamut at your current level. However, Reflect will also prevent you from buffing and healing afterward. Fortunately, White Wind (Blue Mage) and healing items can bypass Reflect.

Note: White Wind heals the entire party equal to the caster's current HP.

  • Start the battle with Mighty Guard (Blue Mage), Hastega (Time Mage), Golem (Summoner), and finally Carbuncle (Summoner).
  • The setup will protect you from most of his attacks, except Maelstrom. If this happens, you cannot heal using Curaga. Instead, use Hi-Potion on your Blue Mage 2 or 3 times, then have the Blue Mage use White Wind.
  • Always watch out for the Reflect status because it will eventually wear off, and you'll need to re-cast it again.
  • Blue Mage can attack using Level 3 Flare, Black Mage can equip Magus Rod or Flame Rod and use Firaga.
  • Zeninage can deal around 5000 HP, making it your strongest attack at the cost of gil. Samurai with Masamune + Two-Handed also deal great damage.

Use Teleport to leave the mountain.
