Gil Cave has a special corridor in the east after the metal door. Every time you step forward, you'll receive gil, double the amount of the previous gil. The gil starts with 10, and at the end, you'll receive a total of 40960 gil. You can revisit as many times as you want; however, every step has a chance you'll encounter Gil Turtle.
Bestiary Checklist:
Setup before entering. This strategy has 3 variants (or more), depending on your available skills and resources. The preparation is the same.
- Variant 1: 1 Knight, 3 Bards (my preferred lineup). You must have the Requiem song. Costs 0 MP and can repeatedly beat the boss without leaving the cave.
- Variant 2: 1 Knight, 3 Mystic Knights. Mystic Knight works better if you have the Two-handed ability equipped to double the damage.
- Variant 3: 1 Knight, 3 Black Mages. Black Mage works better if you have Ether to burn or you just want to kill 1 Gil Turtle for the bestiary entry, then get out.
Or you can mix and match them however you want.
Preparation:
- Change everyone's job to Blue Mage, then enter a battle.
- Use Death Claw on 3 of your allies so that their HP is red, then flee the battle. This will trigger the Knight's ability Cover, which makes him/her take damage for anyone with red HP.
- Use Float (Time Mage) on everyone. This avoids Earthquake when the boss casts it upon death.
- Change the one with full HP to Knight, the 3 with red HP to Bard (or whatever your lineup is). Put everyone in the back row (unless it's a Mystic Knight).
- The Knight must equip Genji Gloves and Bone Mail. These 2 items are important to prevent status ailments.

Boss: Gil Turtle
Normal attacks won't scratch him, plus he has high evasion, which makes physical attacks often miss.
Every time he receives damage, he'll counter with the Turtle skill, which gives various statuses such as Sap, Confuse, Paralyze, Darkness, Poison, and Old.
He has 2 weaknesses: he is weak against ice and is an undead-type monster.
However, Phoenix Down and Raise don't work on him due to his Heavy type.
During the battle:
- IMPORTANT: The Knight must be the first one to use Guard before anyone else hits the boss. Guard will nullify the damage from the boss.
Tip: you can press the Tab key to switch between characters whose ATB gauges are full. - Other 3 members: Use Requiem if you are a Bard, use Blizzaga if you are a Black Mage, or charge your weapon with Blizzaga before attacking the boss if you are a Mystic Knight.
- After the setup, you can turn on auto-battle until you win.
