There are stairs in the middle of the pond. Go down, examine the statue, then choose "Key Items -> White Mask" to place it on the statue.
Magic shop here sells many powerful spells including "Holy", "Barrier", and "Wall". I highly recommend you buy these spells for your characters.
Optional Story: There is a bookshelf in a house in the southwest corner. Examine the bookshelf then you can "Ask" about any "Terms" highlighted in red, including "Ultima Tome".
Leveling Up (Optional but recommended)
Since you obtained new spells, I recommend you roam around Altair to level them up to level 3.
