90. Level Grinding

There are 2 categories of levels in this game:

  • Character Level
  • Job Level

Character Level

You gain character levels by accumulating EXP - the more powerful the monsters, the more EXP they provide. Here are some of the best places to farm EXP:

  • Bahamut's Lair: A good place with many powerful monsters for mid to late game.
  • Ancients' Maze: The area outside of the Ancients' Maze. You can use The Invincible to refill your HP/MP easily.
  • Crystal Tower: When you are able to one-shot most monsters, you can move on to the Crystal Tower. The monsters provide even more EXP. However, you may want to stock up on Hi-Potion so you can replenish HP, especially when farming as 4 Black Belt.

To guarantee you get 9999 HP, you'll have to level up your characters as Black Belt from level 40 according to the stats. However, I still managed to max out HP starting from level 50 with a mixed lineup (fighter, mages, support, etc.), so you don't have to worry too much if you don't start below 40.

Job Level

Jobs don't grow with EXP, but rather with Action Points (AP). You get 1 AP when you perform 1 action. So what counts as actions? Any command you use during a battle counts as an action. For instance, selecting "Attack", selecting "Guard", or using "Magic" - these are all actions.

In a battle, you can level up your job only one time, which means that in order to max out one job, you have to fight at least 99 battles.

Farming Strategy:

The best location to farm job levels is the grassland between Altar Cave and Ur. You don't need a powerful monster - one Goblin is enough.

  • Start by changing everyone to the same job so that they can level up at the same time.
  • Put everyone in the back row to reduce damage, then start running around the grassland.
  • Once the battle starts, everyone uses "Guard" for the first round. This counts as 1 action for each character. Then press the "Auto Battle" button for the number of actions needed.
  • For example, if you need 7 actions to level up, use Guard until round 6 and kill the Goblin at round 7.
  • Repeat 99 times.
